Since the mid-1960’s Yukio has made more than eighty prints of different flowers and (or) the Eurasian eagle-owl. Ten of these prints are shown in this gallery. Click on a picture to enlarge it. The most unique feature of these prints is their color. Yukio used screenprinting to apply small dots of ink across the picture’s surface. This process was repeated many times using different colors to create the shapes of objects included in the picture. These objects had indistinct edges and a speckled or mottled surface which made them look three dimensional. Despite an object’s fuzzy coloring and indistinct edges it was relatively easy for the viewer to identify it when viewed from a distance because its overall shape was very accurate.
